Meet the Matt Mobile

October 22...The day I officially met Matt. How did it start?

For 11.5 years, I had Libby. I got her at time when moving from place to place was important for my mental wellbeing. She got me from home to work and back, to church, to events in and out of town and more. She wasn’t always the smoothest ride, but she was there. She was known to many and became an identifier of my movement. Her brightness was hard to hide.

But after those numerous years, her age started to show. In September, it was out of commission for more than half the month. She kept shutting off and the reason wasn't initially clear. Then after that, the radiator gave up the ghost...with a puff of smoke no less. It was during this time that I advanced plans to purchase a new vehicle. I no longer felt comfortable being on the road in Libby, more so as I end up driving by myself a lot.

As hard as it was, changing the car became necessary. And in this season of change, I need to embrace this. It’s not easy because I’ve bonded with Libby for over a decade. I was comfortable with navigating her and knowing her sounds and feels. She facilitated relationships and quiet time and more. But letting her go frees me to embrace newness, to bond with something else and to feel safer on the roads. The Matt Mobile was the answer.

Matt, like Libby, began with me having to change my mindset. I wanted white car, Libby was not. Then I wanted a car with colour, Matt is not. Having purchased a used car, I intended to get another once more. But I had to change my thinking there as well...Matt is new.

October 25 – the day Matt was officially blessed by my  home church Pastor. It was like a christening which was great. The showers of blessings came down during the short process and we all – my family as well – gathered inside the car. And the prayer was delivered.

Matthew – aka, Matt – is just starting its journey in my life. I never want to take for granted that this is a privilege and not a right. The name is to remind me of that. I knew from before I got the car that I wanted a name that was significant, and especially reflecting God's provision and providence.  In my search, Matthew (in various languages) popped up. I dug a little deeper and found out it means "gift from God". The Matt Mobile is therefore a gift afforded me in this season of change, a gift from which I should pour out to others as needed. I pray that I will have the wisdom to use it well, that it will have God's covering and protection always, and that whoever may find themselves in it will experience Divine blessings.
