An Ever-Evolving Bucket List
I have a Bucket List. Some think that's morbid, others think I should call it a "to-do" list. Regardless, I have and am identifying those things which I want to do before I "kick the bucket", however long from now that is.
What have I checked so far?
A Cruise! - I wanted to do this for so many years, and I got the opportunity in 2013. I did all of 7 days touring the Eastern Caribbean (St Marteen/St Martin; St Thomas and St John, USVI; and the Bahamas). I did it solo (wasn't my first choice but a friend backed out), and it was so worth it.
Going to Broadway! I've always been fascinated by Broadway...actors live on stage giving top-class performances. So in 2012, I went to see Mary Poppins! It was pretty cool. No regrets...worth every bit of the almost US$90 I paid for the ticket (and that was a discounted price).
Flying 1st Class! My curiosity was piqued from a young age about the difference between the regular folk class and 1st class. So when the opportunity arose (via Caribbean Airlines), I took it. I recognise that this cannot compare to the "real" first class (esp on long-haul flights), but at least I got a taste, 3 course meal (with red wine) and all.
To see snow! My wonderful job allowed me to check this off the list in early Feb 2014. And where else but New York! It was quite fascinating to watch. One may consider it "simple" (for a bucket list item), but simple isn't always bad. Did I also mention I was in NYC for meetings at the United Nations?! Pretty awesome!
As for the other items...
Italy! This tops the list of places. Ideally, I want to do a full tour, visiting all the major cities (Rome must be included). I want to take a ride on the gondolas in Venice and see the country side in Tuscany and visit the Colosseum and wonderful Basilicas in Rome (and elsewhere) and lean on the Tower in Pisa. I want to have authentic Italian food and sample many flavours of gelato.
Skiing! This was added about a year ago. It looks like a cool activity to try. I'm also not athletic (putting it mildly), so it's a challenge that I want to face and conquer.
Lion King on Broadway! Maybe I'm greedy since I already checked Broadway off my list, but there seems to be something about this one that is a must see.
An Alaskan cruise! Again, did a cruise already, but imagine cruising the north between glaciers and enjoying a glass of red. And with climate change, these glaciers will lessen or diminish so I hope to catch it before then.
Australia! O wouldn't it be lovely to snorkel along the Great Barrier Reef? To experience the flip of seasons? To visit the Opera House? And why not hop on over to Fiji? If only...
Cuba! I am curious about the culture and the sights and the way of living. Now to get someone to go with me...
Paris! I'm pretty sure other parts of France are beautiful, but it's Paris that I would like to visit, more so the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre and the Notre Dame Cathedral. I suppose I could try the food...(sense the enthusiasm?!)
To write a song! I have not determined the subject or length or type of song. What I do know is that it will have meaning and will be inspired.
This is an evolving list, so perhaps by next month one of the items will be removed and others added. As for 2015, I would love to go to Italy or Cuba or do the Alaskan cruise. That which stands in my way are financial resources and company...but hey, God performs miracles :-).
