Braking Mercies

I've had few instances in life when I was scared...almost seeing a twilight moment unfolding in slow motion. I had one such moment today.

I was on my way to a workshop this morning. I did not have many issues except terrible roads and inconsiderate and selfish people (ie, the usual). I was in the Mona area when I approached an intersection (my right of way) and saw that a taxi was contemplating making his way in front of me. In anticipation of what is normal (ie, him swinging in-front of me when he aught not), I started to depress my brake...and it was like mush. WTH?! Fortunately, there was no car directly in front of me, so by the time the pedal reached the floor, it slowed. Fortunately also the taxi was gracious to allow me to continue unobstructed.

No doubt my heart was racing by this time. I was totally unprepared for this. I sauntered on until I reached my final destination (not the movie one thank God). I began to wonder if dem potholes were to be blamed...or if it wasn't serviced properly less than 3 months ago. When I spoke to the mechanic, he advised me that it was likely a temporary situation, that the break fluid may need changing, and that it should be normal by the time I'm ready to depart. I was a bit skeptical, but I took his word. It was also after the fact that people's questions of "did you pump the pedal?" reminded my sub-conscious that I'd heard that some looong time ago.

A few hours later, the car seemed back to normal. Whew! Of course, driving was very cautious. I became the person I hate driving behind. Didn't care. I got to my office safely...and later got home safely. I suppose it was would suit me to get it checked out soon...

What did I take from today?
1) God smiles on me all the time :-). Today it was preventing an accident when things seem to be leading that way (in slow motion and in my head anyways).
2) Always be prepared for the unexpected. One may not always expect some "unexpecteds", but we should be prepared to respond in an intelligent or coherent way.

Thank God for braking mercies!
