Live Puppet - Mo' Strings Attached
We're all born with free will...the freedom to choose what we do in life, how we live it, etc. Our environment and circumstances will have an influence on how this freedom is lived out. They certainly shape the persons we eventually become, be it good or bad.
I reflected on this while listening to an audio series online, and the speaker was preaching on How to Dream Great Dreams. The essence of the message: Christians only dream great dreams (and see them realised) when they have daring faith in God. He is the one that will ultimately decide what becomes reality. This is not an easy feat, to say, "God, take these dreams and do what you want".
While he spoke, an imagery came to me - puppets. A puppet essentially is dead. Its only movements are orchestrated by a master puppeteer. The psychologists and pretty much anyone will say that we should always strive to be free and not be someone's puppet. It's therefore seen as an unhealthy way of living. But I dare say that we should be striving to be puppets. The clincher, however, is to make sure that it's the Master - God - that has our strings and that He is the ONLY one that can move us.
From over 30 years' experience in life on earth, I've observed that we often become caught up in the world's view of what we should look like, how we should behave, and telling us what we should like or dislike, etc. Yet this (view) is ever-changing. One minute coconut oil is bad for you, the next it's fantastic...and one of the best things to use in hair and on skin. One minute red is in, the next, orange is the new black. One day the price of oil is over a US$100/barrel, and a few weeks later, it's US$30. People speculate it will increase again soon. The bottom line is that people and the things they control are fickle. And if we give much thought and action to this knowledge, we'd have a lot more independent beings.
Truth be told, I'm not guilt-free. Seeing myself in God's eyes has always been a challenge. BUT, I'm learning and working on myself. The more I learn about who God is, the mo' I want to give Him mo' of my strings. That way, I do less heavy lifting...it takes the pressure off me!
Mo' strings attached to the Master Puppeteer! The journey continues...
