Philippines Adventures - The First Part

Image
THE BEGINNING: I've been to over 20 countries, most of them because of my job. But I can hands-down say I've never had a more adventurous, tiring, character-building, adrenaline-pumping trip than the one I took to the Philippines in May of this year. This post is going to be long, so I decided to do it two parts. My being nominated to go to the Philippines was because boss and manager in the division were both unable to go. No issues here! I've never been there and it was seen as another opportunity to see another part of the world. I also was to present on an area that I had to do research; it was a challenge, but I was up for it. I discovered that it would be four of us going including someone from my office (let's call him LJ). He had his itinerary first, so I changed mine to match his. Others - another female (let's call her W), and another male (let's call him J). It was therefore an even split of males and females. UP IN THE AIR AND IN-BETWEEN: The d...

Season of Building Relationships

It is not good for man to be alone . In the Genesis 2 account of the creation story, God made man (Adam) and soon thereafter said he aught not be alone. Eve was created thereafter. It's an intimate relationship in its purest form, and that's what God intended - for man and God to be walking together, enjoying paradise. That lasted...until it didn't. The principle and the human desire and need for relationships, however, continued into perpetuity. And this is what this season is about. Prior to the end of 2017, I knew it was time to seek God's guidance on what I needed to focus on. For a moment I thought it would be hard to come by, but that was not the case. It came to be so clearly that what I needed to work on was relationships. Needless to say I needed to evaluate exactly what that meant and I think I have some idea...after all, it's about 9 months ago that this happened! The first thing I realised is that I must work on my most important relationship in li...

A Sunday Unlike Most Others

On Sunday, July 22, 2018, I made a few choices about how to spend my day. I would go to church but not my regular church; I would then find lunch and head to a friend's graduation ceremony; I would then head to Portmore to pick up my mom and then enjoy the wonderful music from the Portmore Chorale. The day went more or less as planned...except it was so much more than I planned! I'm on medication for a week, and I decided to "google" at the types of food that I should and shouldn't eat with it. My plans for breakfast were the things I shouldn't eat, so I ended up going to Megamart for food. This is the first time I can recall doing that on a Sunday morning. I strolled out in my pink cap and top and light green pants...didn't care who thought I looked strange. Then there was church. My home church happens to be in an area where road works are taking place, and I knew that there would be diversions and possibly no electricity. I also didn't have to...

MIA but Working on it

It's been quite some time since I sat down to put "pen to paper" so to speak. But I will do my best to post more often. Truth is I doubt many people read this blog, but I want to be able to capture a lot of my important, significant, memorable or funny life events. With that said, the next post arrives in 3...2...

Reflections Part 2 - Crazy, Radical Faith for 2017

Part of my growth process is to strive towards achieving a goal that I have identified as necessary based on introspection. For 2017, it was about Crazy, Radical Faith. There were some things happening in my life that demanded it. I also felt it was necessary to grow in faith regardless of what was happening. One of the issues that had me struggling the most was by lower back. In the latter part of 2016, I did an MRI which showed degeneration (the very short version). It was causing me to have pain and discomfort. For the most part, I could manage the pain. I did do a few sessions of physiotherapy to help when it was at it's worse. But perhaps what I needed extra grace for is the inability to sleep well. I couldn't seem to find a comfortable position - side, back, didn't matter. It affected me in different ways. I felt lethargic and lazy a lot. I felt like I had to put a lot more effort into doing things and going places. Even going to church and teaching my Sunday School...

Reflections Part 1 - The Adventures of 2017

" Adventure is worthwhile " - Aesop When I started 2017, I had no idea I would have travelled as much as I did. I visited places I have never been before, and I also revisited other places and experienced them in a fresh way. I reflect on them all in this post not just to share with whomever may be so inclined to read it, but as a way to reflect with gratitude on the adventures I had. It is the most I've ever travelled in one year so apologies for the long post. The first real adventure was a Portland getaway with friends. I drove down on Saturday morning and joined the gang. The worse part of the whole weekend was the trip through Junction...I hated it! Apart from being very winding and narrow, there were people who seemed intent on running me off the road. Nonetheless, being there was good, going to the beach, enjoying the food and just relaxing. In February, a small groups of us from my office decided to take a trip up to Falling Edge Waterfalls. ...
